The problem with the government

The theme of this blog is why our government doesn't seem to succeed. I derive my ideas from my education, my life experience and my experience in the business world. While it's true that the government can't function exactly like a business, because it is all at once a business, a charity, and a protector, and it's a unique form that's hard to pin down with a description. Therefore I won't try to say we should only run it like a business, as seems to be the prevailing wisdom from a lot of business types. That being said, it's also not only a charity, which seems to be the prevailing thought of the current Presidential administration. It's also not only for the purpose of war and protecting our borders, although this is one of the chief functions of government in any form.

Our government has lost sight of it's real function and fallen into the trap of trying to be all things to all people with the agenda of winning their next election. This is where we have fallen tradgically short of the intent of the founding fathers and the explicit language of the constitution which every member of congress and every President swears an oath to uphold and protect. Almost without exception, both parties have increased the power of the Federal government with every passing congress and every passing Presidential tenure. They have co-opted the constitution to their own ends. The commerce clause has probably been the most misused piece of the constitution, corrupted to fit the agenda of generations of power seekers and societal architects.

My goal is to inform and show people the way back to the 'model' the founders put forth to govern this incredible country. There will be those that say 'slavery was not addressed by the founders, so you must be for slavery'! That doesn't even dignify a response, because the founders in their infinite wisdom, provided for changing societal wrongs by constitutional amendment, which we have done numerous times. One of those ending slavery. We have the most equitable and free society in the world because of our founders, but we are loosing our freedoms and rights at an increasing pace right now. We have lost our privacy, our religion, and now our ability to decide our own fate with our own lives. I want to build on the idea of the loss of these things and show what it will take to get them back. I want to make a case for the shrinking of the federal government by half, and talk about the wholesale stealing of power from the states by the federal government. Until next time, keep paying attention and always look at government actions with a skeptical eye.
